The Monotony Of Life- A Terrifying Nightmare

By 3 months ago

I wake up in cold sweat as the clock strikes 6 am. The same old day- the same old monotony of life. Wake up, brush, have your breakfast, and go to work. Come back from work, watch a mindless TV series while munching on some burger and fries, and go back to bed. A peaceful life, isn’t it? Low expectations, low results. One can’t expect to grow in such an environment when one has no incentive for that. Why should I try to change it? I have a stable income, a good night’s sleep, food on my table, and a bottle of chilled beer in my fridge. Life’s good.

Except that it’s not.

This is suffocating, the walls converging on me as I try to break free from the shackles that hold me to this monotony of life. I am not a rat forever running the treadmill, trying to reach that ever-elusive piece of cheese. I work, and work, and work, but for what? A boring, divisive 9-to-5 job that reminds me of Edward Norton’s insomnia in Fight Club? No, thank you.

I am no Chuck Palahniuk, and I have literally no intention of trying to burn down my apartment and live off with my bipolar schizophrenic self. Life deserves to be lived, to be experienced. The moments that make up one’s consciousness are what we strive for. For, when we die, these are the very moments that will flash before our eyes. Life isn’t about making a routine, a habit. For, that makes life an endeavor in futility.

You might think jumping from 1000 feet is scary, but you haven’t experienced true fear until you find your hope snatched away from you. A hope that life would be different, that TOMORROW would be different. When I think about the monotony of life, a shiver runs down my spine. I can imagine the lackluster life as I envision it setting like the afternoon sun. Life needs to be exhilarating. It needs to be fruitful, but most of all, it needs to be different. So here is what you do- Carpe diem.

Seize the day. Don’t let routine consume you. Don’t force yourself to go through something that you have never yearned for. Read what you desire, hear what you desire. Learn a new instrument, somersault- do anything that is different, that brings out the real you within yourself. Routine is going to kill you, it is going to put you on a rudderless boat with no direction. This monotony of life is a giant, vast, seamless ocean where your boat would seem to go nowhere until you take it upon yourself to steer it. To navigate it through the treacheries of existence.

If you want to break free from this monotony of life, if you want a change, then you have to be the change. As they say, be the change that you want to see around you. Change is nature- embrace it.
